Jonathan Byrd’s Events + Catering Brand and Website Refresh

Right before the pandemic hit (boo hiss), I had the opportunity to work on a large refresh for the company I was working for as a Marketing Manager. Their company has been in business for over 70 years and needed a minor facelift to revitalize the look and feel of their brand.

When approaching this project, we felt the largest issue was the disconnect between their event center (502 East) and their catering company (Jonathan Byrd’s Catering). Everything was siloed, and it was unclear who worked where, owned what, etc. So alongside upper management, I proposed to brand an umbrella company that covered all bases: Jonathan Byrd’s Events + Catering. This could be utilized for social media, their website, business cards, etc., to create a more unified brand.

Updated Logo

We went from having disconnected logos, two separate social media pages, and a confusing website layout to one unified brand.

The catering logo was a bit dated and had a very harsh red as the main color, with the addition of purple on the digital marketing. I gave this a more friendly feel by adding a subdued orange color scheme paired with a crisp black and a plethora of white space. I went with this specific orange because it is utilized in the 502 East brand, so in order to keep some familiarity with our client (and to stay on budget as this is the most prominent logo on a massive sign on the building), I felt that this was a step in the right direction without reinventing the wheel.

Original logos with a disconnect between brands.

Updated logos with unified color scheme and an umbrella company logo for the website and corporate marketing.

I maintained the website and social accounts from November 2019 - August 2020, and again (as a contracted employee) from June 2022 - February 2023.
